Who wrote the Bible?

FAQs (009)

The Bible was written by about 40 different writers over a period of some 1500 years. These writers were drawn from every level of society including kings (eg: David, Solomon), political leaders (Moses, Daniel), fishermen (Peter, John), a doctor (Luke), a tax collector (Matthew), a servant (Nehemiah), shepherds and herdsmen (Amos, David), a rabbi (Paul), and others.

These people wrote in many different styles. You will find statements of laws, examples of poetry, narrative accounts of daily life and events, personal and public letters, historical records, prophetic statements, a variety of stories and the recorded words of many individuals including God himself.

Despite the variety of human writers the Bible claims to be inspired by God, literally "God breathed", each writer working under the influence and direction of God's Holy Spirit. So the Bible claims to be God's Word.

God is the author.
